How to Connect Claude Desktop to WordPress with Agent Connector

Follow the instructions below to connect Claude Desktop (the Claude app for Mac and Windows) to your WordPress site with Agent Connector.

1. Install and activate Agent Connector on your WordPress site.
2. In your WordPress dashboard, in the left menu, click Agent Connector, navigate to the Connect tab (open by default), and click Get Started.
3. Choose Claude Desktop and click Continue.
4. Click Generate app password.
5. Under How to connect, click Copy on the JSON shown.
6. In Claude Desktop, open the Claude menu → Settings → Developer → Edit Config. This opens claude_desktop_config.json.
7. Merge the copied mcpServers entry into the file — do not replace the whole file. Paste it inside the outermost braces, and add a comma to separate it from what is already there. Save the file.
8. Quit and reopen Claude Desktop so it loads the new connection.
9. Recommended – Back in WordPress, open Agent Connector → Settings and install the Universal Abilities plugin — this gives your AI agent abilities to make common changes to your WordPress site.
10. Ask Claude Desktop to do something — for example, “create a blog post about controlling WordPress with Claude Desktop.”
